Education Background

Chen Ma graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Medicine from Xuzhou Medical College (1988–1991).

He later pursued advanced studies and obtained a Master’s degree in Surgical Science from Soochow University (Suzhou, China) (2000–2003).

In addition to his medical education, Chen Ma completed specialized training in music therapy and earned certification as a National Music Therapist, issued by the China Employment Training Technical Instruction Center (2013–2023).

He also studied Traditional Chinese Medicine at Oshio College of Acupuncture and Herbology, further enriching his academic and clinical background.

Professional Experience

Chen Ma has accumulated over 30 years of clinical experience in general surgery. His professional journey includes roles such as:

  • Physician at Huang Hai Hospital, Yancheng, Jiangsu Province (1991–1996)
  • Physician at Sheyang Labor Hospital, Jiangsu Province (1996–2000)
  • Chief Physician and Surgical Specialist at Ningbo First Hospital (2003–2018)
  • Senior Surgeon at Renji Hospital Ningbo Branch, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (2018–present)

Chen Ma also served as an Associate Professor at Wenzhou Medical University and as a Master’s Supervisor at Ningbo University.

He is recognized as an early advocate for the “Four Transformations” in surgical treatment in China: Standardization, Individualization, Precision, and Comfort.

In addition to his medical career, Chen Ma now contributes to Oshio College of Acupuncture and Herbology as a visiting professor, sharing his extensive expertise with students.

Music Therapy Expertise

Chen Ma is a certified Music Therapist and a member of the Ningbo Guqin Association.

He has extensive experience applying music therapy to the rehabilitation of chronic illnesses, particularly in cancer prevention and emotional recovery.

He served as the principal investigator for a research project funded by the Ningbo Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, focusing on the emotional regulation of cancer patients through music therapy.

In 2016, he participated in the 4th International Congress of Music Therapy (IAMM), sharing clinical research findings with international peers.

He has delivered numerous public lectures on “Music and Health” in cities such as Suzhou, Chongqing, and Shenzhen, and his work has been featured in various media outlets.
