1. Policy Statement
Oshio College of Acupuncture & Herbology is committed to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This policy outlines the procedures for responding to critical incidents—including natural disasters, medical emergencies, fire, violence, or other events that pose an immediate risk to life, health, or the normal operations of the College.
2. Definition of a Critical Incident
A critical incident refers to any sudden or unexpected event that:
Threatens the safety of students, staff, or the public
Causes major disruption to normal school operations
Requires immediate emergency response from the College or external agencies
Examples include (but are not limited to):
Fire, earthquake, flood, or power outage
Medical emergencies or accidents on campus
Physical threats, violent behaviour, or lockdown situations
Hazardous material exposure
Missing person incidents involving students
Health emergencies (e.g., communicable disease outbreaks)
3. Designated Crisis Response Personnel
In the event of a critical incident, the following College staff are designated as primary responders:

These individuals are responsible for coordinating the immediate response, liaising with emergency services, and initiating internal protocols.
4. Response Procedures
Immediate Action Steps (For All Persons On Campus):
Ensure your personal safety first.
Call 9-1-1 in any life-threatening emergency (fire, serious injury, violent threat).
Follow posted emergency evacuation or shelter-in-place instructions.
Report the incident immediately to a staff member or one of the designated contacts above.
If You Are Off-Campus:
Contact emergency services (9-1-1) first if needed
Then notify the College of the incident using the contact information above
5. Fire, Earthquake, and Emergency Drills
The College conducts regular emergency preparedness drills to ensure all members of the campus community understand what to do in the event of:
Fire evacuation
Earthquake or natural disaster
Lockdown or shelter-in-place orders
Drill participation is mandatory for all students and staff. Emergency procedures are also posted in visible locations throughout the building.
6. Communication Protocols
In the event of a campus-wide emergency, the College will notify students and staff through:
Email notifications
On-site announcements or signage
SMS or phone calls (if required)
An incident report will be generated and reviewed by the administration to improve future response planning.
7. Post-Incident Support
After a critical incident, the College will:
Provide emotional or academic support to affected individuals
Refer students to external counseling or medical resources if needed
Conduct a debriefing to improve emergency preparedness procedures
8. Responsibility and Review
The Principal and Vice Principal are responsible for:
Updating and enforcing this policy
Conducting staff training
Coordinating with local authorities as necessary
This policy is reviewed annually or following any critical incident on campus.
